FAQs

Answers to Your Most Common Questions

  • What makes Run the Dog different from regular dog walking?

Run the Dog specializes in structured, high-energy running sessions designed to fulfill your dog's physical, mental, and behavioral needs. Unlike standard dog walking services, our focus is on providing purposeful exercise and training within small, carefully curated packs. Every session includes socialization, impulse control, and leash manners—delivered personally by our founder, Chantal, on scenic trails in Barrie and Midhurst. This approach is especially effective for high-energy and anxious dogs, ensuring they return home calmer, happier, and more fulfilled.

  • How do you ensure safety during group dog runs and hikes?

Safety is our core priority at Run the Dog. Every new dog starts with a mandatory Intro Run for assessment before joining any pack. Packs are carefully matched by size, energy, and temperament, with a strict maximum of six dogs per group. Only spayed/neutered dogs over 15–18 months are eligible, and dogs with a history of aggression are not accepted. All sessions include structured warm-up and cool-down, and we operate on local trails in Midhurst and Barrie known for safety. Our founder is fully insured and manages every group personally for maximum oversight and peace of mind.

  • Who is eligible for Run the Dog services, and are there breed or age restrictions?

Run the Dog is designed for medium to high-energy, friendly dogs who thrive on structured exercise and socialization. All dogs must be spayed or neutered and at least 15 months old (18 months for 4–6km runs). Brachycephalic breeds (like Bulldogs, Pugs, and Boxers) are not accepted for running, and suitability for hikes is assessed individually. Dogs with aggression towards people or other dogs cannot join for the safety of all. If your dog is nervous, shy, or leash-reactive, our program is tailored to build confidence in a safe, structured pack environment.

  • How do I get started, and what is the Intro Run?

Every new client begins with a mandatory one-on-one Intro Run. This assessment session helps us understand your dog’s energy, temperament, and leash manners before placing them in a suitable pack. It’s a chance for your dog to get comfortable, for you to ask questions, and for us to ensure the highest safety standards. After the Intro Run, we’ll recommend the best distance and pack for your dog's needs. Booking is easy—just reach out via our online form or give us a call to secure your spot.
